You don't need to verify or update your email account

Every now and then students and employees at the University receive emails where they're asked to upgrade or verify their email account by clicking on some more or less suspicious link. These are so-called phishing emails, and the best thing to do when you get a message like that is to delete it.

Lately, at least two phishing messages have circulated, asking users to click a link in order to keep their mailbox. These do not come from IT services office, they are phishing emails.

A number of users at the University have thought that these messages were legitimate and handed over their usernames and passwords. This way their accounts have been used to send a lot of spam, causing other sites to block any emails from our domain his.se.

If you have received a phishing email, the best thing to do is to just delete it. If you entered your account information where you shouldn't have, change your password as soon as possible. If you handed out your user information and your account got blocked due to spam, please contact Helpdesk.
