Re-evaluation of grade and correction of grade

If you think that an exam or other examination is not correctly evaluated, you have the opportunity to have the decision re-evaluated or corrected, depending on what is wrong. This should be done as soon as possible after the grade is published. If there is a result of an exam that you want to have re-evaluated or corrected, ask for a copy of your exam and leave the original at Student Affairs Office until the case is completed.

Re-evaluation

If you think that the evaluation of your examination is incorrect, you can submit a request for re-evaluation. This also applies when a teacher have failed to mark an entire exam question!

  • Ask Student Affairs Office for a copy of your exam and leave the original at Student Affairs Office until the case is completed.
  • Fill out the form Application for re-evaluation of a grade (pdf).
  • Write a statement on a separate piece of paper for which questions you consider to have been incorrectly evaluated and why you believe a re-evaluation is warranted. Please motivate and be as detailed and specific as possible, you can refer to the course's grading criteria or the exam review if it is relevant. Your name and date of birth must be at the top of each sheet you hand in/submit (not double-sided).
  • Send the form and your written statement by e-mail to omprovning@his.se or submit it to Student Affairs Office.
  • Student Affairs Office will copy your original exam and send it with the form and your written statement to the examiner for a re-evaluation.

Correction – direct contact with examiner

If the teacher has made an obvious typographical error, calculation error or equivalent, the decision will be corrected by the course examiner. You should then contact the examiner directly and bring a copy of your exam or equivalent examination and leave the original at the Student Affairs Office.

Decision

Decisions on changing grades can only be made by the examiner for the current course. If the request is denied, an appeal is not possible. The decision must be notified to the student by e-mail by the examiner, normally within about 3 weeks.

A student’s right to re-evaluation of a grade is controlled in the Higher Education Ordinance (Chapter 6, Sections 23-24).
