Source Criticism Day – visit the University Library

"In times of disinformation and resistance to knowledge, it is especially important to emphasize the importance of source criticism," says librarian Maria Wickenberg. The University Library has a special focus on this on Source Criticism Day, 13 March.

This year, the library has chosen to set up a table with literature on source criticism and display various posters with concrete tips on how to evaluate sources.

"If we can encourage a more critical mindset, that’s great" says Maria Wickenberg.

University libraries have a mission to strengthen democracy, which includes spreading knowledge about source criticism.

"We want to highlight this issue and increase awareness. It feels very important. If people cannot think critically about their sources, democracy risks losing ground," says Maria Wickenberg.

Background

Source Criticism Day falls on 13 March. Since 2017, the Internet Foundation and the Source Criticism Bureau have been raising awareness among Swedes about the significance of a critical approach to information.
