Run – Hide – Alert
Run
Usually the best solution when the perpetrator is at a distance and you assess that you can leave the area with relative safety.
Hide
Hide if you cannot leave the area. Find a place you assess to be safe. Be quiet and stay calm, listen carefully to what is happening around you.
Turn off sound and vibration on your mobile phone. Do not call anyone who may be in danger – the ringtone could reveal the person's hiding place.
Alert
Alert the police by calling 112. The police need to know:
- The location
- What has happened
- How many perpetrators you have seen
- What weapons they used
- What they look like
- Where you last saw them
Warn those in danger and help those who need assistance.
- After calling 112: If possible, contact the University’s Officer on Duty: 0500-44 89 00
