Thanks to the quick and resourceful actions of a student, the fire was promptly extinguished using a fire extinguisher.

The emergency services and the police were called to the University but were soon able to confirm that the fire was completely confined to the microwave oven and that there was no risk of it spreading.

No one was injured. The University wishes to extend its sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to a calm and orderly evacuation and showed respect for the situation.
