Studying with children – support for student parents

Are you studying and have children? Or are you expecting a child during your studies? Here you can find information about support, bringing children to teaching sessions, breastfeeding, examinations and clinical placements (VFU).

A useful tip is to plan around your timetable. The Student Health Service website provides advice on how to balance your studies with family life. You can also find information about childcare and various forms of financial support.

Bringing children to teaching sessions

Only registered students may participate in teaching sessions. If there are special circumstances, you may be allowed to bring your child, but you must first obtain approval from the teacher. If your child disrupts the teaching session, you and your child may be asked to leave the room.

Changing facilities and breastfeeding

Most University buildings have toilets with baby-changing facilities.

Behind the main reception (Building G), there is a rest room that you can use for breastfeeding during reception opening hours. There are also other private areas with sofas where you can breastfeed or express breast milk.

Breastfeeding during written examinations

If you need to breastfeed during an examination, this must be arranged in advance. Contact Examination Administration at tentamen@his.se well in advance of the examination.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding during clinical placements (VFU)

If you are due to undertake a clinical placement (VFU) and are pregnant or breastfeeding, contact vfu.vard@his.se. The University can then assess whether you need any adjustments and, if necessary, carry out a risk and impact assessment.
