Cancellation or withdrawal from courses and programmes

If you have decided not to complete your programme or course, you need to cancel your registration.

Questions and answers

You can withdraw from a course or a programme that you have registered for.

You can withdraw at any time.

Withdrawal before registration

If you have not registered yet, you should decline your place at antagning.se or universityadmissions.se.

You can decline your place during the first three weeks of the course or programme.

Withdrawal from studies means that your right to a place in the current course or programme ends.

You will be removed from participant lists, mailing lists, and the course page in Canvas as of the withdrawal date.

  • If you withdraw within three weeks of the start of a programme course or independent course, it is considered an early withdrawal. Your registration will then be removed from the study documentation system (Ladok).
  • If you withdraw after three weeks have passed, it is considered a late withdrawal. Your registration and the withdrawal date will then remain visible in Ladok and on your certificate of registration.

Note: A notification of withdrawal is final – no examinations, such as resits or assignment submissions, may be completed after the withdrawal date.

No, if you receive student financial aid, you must inform CSN to avoid being liable for repayment.

You can download a Transcript of Records and Registration Certificate showing what you are registered for and submit it to CSN. This can be done via Ladok for Students.

CSN can see in Ladok when a withdrawal from studies is registered.

Credits taken are not affected by a cancellation of a course or programme, and remain in Ladok.

If you were to return to studies in the same programme, or any other academic education programme, you can apply for a transfer of credits.

The decision is made by the university you apply to.

You are not guaranteed to return to the cancelled program or courses at a later time.

If a course cancellation is made early, that is within three weeks from the course start date (and you have not taken any credits), you can reapply for the course.

If the cancellation is made more than three weeks after the course start date, you can request re-registration by contacting the course coordinator, provided there is an opening in the course at the time of the request.

You can apply to resume studies in a programme you have previously cancelled. See more information on Registration page.

The application may be granted provided:

  1. You have attended the first semester of the programme (resuming discontinued studies in the first semester is not permitted)
  2. There is an opening in the programme at that time
  3. The programme has the same code as it had when you were previously registered

If you are unable to apply for resumption of your studies, you can apply to the programme again via universityadmissions.se / antagning.se.

If you have any further questions, please email admission@his.se.
