During the night between 7 and 8 May, Canvas was intermittently unavailable due to the IT incident. At present, however, the University of Skövde’s Canvas is functioning, although other higher education institutions may still be experiencing problems.

As work to manage the IT incident is ongoing, integrations between Canvas and other systems, such as Ladok, may be unavailable.

Swedish higher education institutions and universities are coordinating their efforts to manage the incident.

What has happened?

The provider of Canvas has informed its customers of a security incident. According to the provider, there is a risk that personal data may have been leaked in connection with the incident.

What does this mean for the University of Skövde?

According to the provider, it has now been confirmed that the University of Skövde is one of the higher education institutions that may have been affected by the incident.

The information that may have been leaked from Canvas includes:

• names
• email addresses
• messages between users

At present, there is no information indicating that Canvas passwords have been leaked.

What has the University done?

The University has:

• reported a potential personal data breach to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY)
• maintained ongoing contact with other Swedish higher education institutions that also use Canvas
• monitored the situation and taken the necessary measures.

What do you need to do as a student at the University of Skövde?

• Do not click on links from unknown senders.
• Be cautious about the information you share in personal messages in Canvas.
• Be alert to suspicious emails or login requests.
