Degrees at First-Cycle level

The following requirements apply to degrees that are issued at First-Cycle Qualifications at University of Skövde.

General First-Cycle Qualifications

Higher Education Diplomas [Högskoleexamen] 120 credits

A Higher Education Diploma is awarded after the student has completed the courses required to gain 120 credits with a defined specialization determined by each higher education institution itself.

A requirement for the award of a Higher Education Diploma is completion by the student of an independent project (degree project) in the main field of study.

The specialization of the Higher Education Diploma (120 credits) is awarded in one of the established main fields of study at the University of Skövde, see appendix: Main Field of Studies at University of Skövde in Local System of Qualifications at the University of Skövde (Registration number HS 2021/910).

For a Higher Education Diploma completed course requirements comprising at least 60 credits in the main field of study. Of these credits, at least 15 credits, including the degree project of at least 7.5 credits, shall be on course level G1F or G1E or higher.

Degree of Bachelor [Kandidatexamen] 180 credits

A Degree of Bachelor is awarded after the student has completed the courses required to gain 180 credits in a defined specialization determined by each higher education institution itself, of which 90 credits are for progressively specialised study in the principal field (main field of study) of the programme.

A requirement for the award of a Degree of Bachelor is completion by the student of an independent project (degree project) for at least 15 credits in the main field of study.

A Degree of Bachelor at the University of Skövde is awarded in one of the established first-cycle main fields of study see appendix: Main Field of Studies at University of Skövde in Local System of Qualifications at the University of Skövde (Registration number HS 2021/910) The following suffixes are used for Degree of Bachelor: ‘of Science in Business Administration,’ ‘of Arts,’ or ‘of Science.’

Degree of Bachelor [Filosofie kandidatexamen] 180 credits

For a Filosofie kandidatexamen (180 credits) at the University of Skövde, course requirements comprising at least 90 credits must have been completed within one of the University’s first-cycle main fields of study. Of these credits, at least 30, including a degree project of at least 15 credits, shall be on course level G2F – G2E.

Degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration [Ekonomie kandidatexamen] 180 credits

For an Ekonomie kandidatexamen (180 credits), course requirements of at least 90 credits must have been completed within the main field of study of business administration, pursuant to the requirements for a Degree of Bachelor of Science qualification. At least 15 economics credits, 15 law credits, and 15 statistics credits, or 30 economics credits and 15 statistics credits are also required.

Degree of Bachelor of Science [Teknologie kandidatexamen] 180 credits

For a Teknologie kandidatexamen (180 credits) at the University, course requirements of at least 90 credits according to the requirements of a Degree of Bachelor of Arts must have been completed within one of the main field of study: Product Design Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.

In addition, at least 15 mathematics credits (with specific entry requirements, no lower than upper secondary course Mathematics D/Mathematics 3C) are required.

Professional First-Cycle Qualifications

Degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing [Sjuksköterskeexamen]

A Degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing is awarded after the student has completed the courses required to gain 180 credits including an independent project (degree project) of at least 15 credits.

For a Sjuksköterskeexamen at the University of Skövde, course requirements must have been completed according to the programme syllabus of the ‘Nursing – Study Programme 180 credits.

Degree of Bachelor of Science in Engineering [Högskoleingenjörsexamen] 180 credits

A Degree of Bachelor of Science in Engineering is awarded after the student has completed the courses required to gain 180 credits including an independent project (degree project) of at least 15 credits.

Högskoleingenjörsexamen (180 credits) at the University of Skövde is awarded with specialization in Product Design Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering. The specializations are main fields of study at the University of Skövde. Course requirements must have been completed according to the programme syllabus of one of the University’s engineering programmes.
